In 2006 a first LIF system was developed to measure nitrogen dioxide (NO2).

It was used in the summer of 2007 in an intercomparation campaign, organized at the University of L'Aquila, where the NO2 measurements carried out by LIF were intercompared with those of a chemiluminescence instrument of Prof. Yoshi Kajii of Tokyo Metropolitan University (currently at Kyoto University). The results of this intercomparation were the result of a publication available at the following link.
