In 2006 a first LIF system was developed to measure nitrogen dioxide (NO₂).

It was used in the summer of 2007 in an intercomparation campaign, organized at the University of L'Aquila, where the NO₂ measurements carried out by LIF were intercompared with those of a chemiluminescence instrument of Prof. Yoshi Kajii of Tokyo Metropolitan University (currently at Kyoto University).
