University "G. d’Annunzio" Chieti - Pescara

The SONATA summer school took place from 17 to 28 August 2011 at the Pescara airport (Italy) as part of the EUFAR FP7 training courses.

EUFAR (The EUropean Facility for Airborne Research) is a consortium for transnational access to the European fleet of research aircraft that brings together aircraft manufacturers specific for physico-chemical investigations or dithelerilevamento with the scientific community.

The SONATA summer school was organized by the CETEMPS-University of L'Aquila and was held at the University of Chieti-Pescara in the summer of 2011 within the EUFAR FP7 Training Courses. The directors of the school were Prof. Piero Di Carlo (University of Chieti-Pescara) and Prof. Jim McQuaid (University of Leeds). Part of this school was an air campaign on board the English scientific plane BAe146, on board of which, among others, the TD-LIF was installed. The objective of this campaign was the study of the chemical composition of gas and particulate in Central Italy during the summer: in particular, the flights affected the Tyrrhenian Sea (Pescara-Ancona-transport from the Po Valley), urban area of Pescara and Abruzzo hinterland (Gran Sasso).
