University "G. d’Annunzio" Chieti - Pescara

Our new frontier activity is the study of the interaction between atmospheric compounds and human health.

The interdisciplinary analysis of the impact of atmospheric compounds on the environment and on the health of living beings is becoming increasingly important. The effect on human health ranges in wide clinical fields: from diseases to the respiratory system to effects on the neurological system.

Our work focuses on ozone, a tropospheric gas resulting from anthropogenic emissions with important oxidative capacities. The effect of ozone concentrations (equal to those considered as threshold values for human health effects by European directives) has been studied on human cells, both carcinogenic and non, through in-vitro interdisciplinary experiments in collaboration with biologists of the University of L'Aquila. Currently we are proceeding with a series of in-vitro interdisciplinary experiments with geneticists of the "G. d'Annunzio" University to evaluate the impact of ozone on different human cells and bacteria and with different expected behaviors.
